Preservation Delaware

This is the group from which the Hockessin Historical Society was originally formed. Preservation Delaware, Inc. is the statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Delaware’s architectural heritage and historic settings through education, public policy initiatives and technical assistance. Preservation Delaware sees a future in which dedicated members of the community can actively preserve and maintain historical landmarks from the dangers of development and decay with the responsible allocation of government resources. https://preservationde.org/

Wilmington & Western Railroad

Besides restoring and preserving the historic railroad which was a vital part of Hockessin's economy, the group has also made available a selection of historic documents on local hostoric topics called The Monograph Collection. Mill Creek Hundred Blog

This is a comprehensive and continually evolving list of local historial articles on a vast list of topics. Scott Palmer's articles are both informative and well written so people with no historic background can enjoy the topics. Hockessin 107C

One of the first black school houses in Delaware. Our mission is to transform the historic Hockessin school that ended segregation into a Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Equity. https://hockessincoloredschool107.org/

Delaware Public Archives

A resource for historical doccuments and also helps facilitate the instalation of historic markers and having properties listed on the state and national historic registers. https://archives.delaware.gov/

Hale-Byrnes House

Hale-Byrnes is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is part of the nine-state Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail and is also the southern anchor site of the federally-designated Wild and Scenic White Clay Creek. Hale Byrnes House was the first building in Delaware to receive the State Heritage Plaque. http://www.halebyrnes.org/ The Historic Hale-Byrnes House was the site of a Council of War on September 6, 1777, five days before the Battle of the Brandywine. The house was built during the eighteenth century. The oldest section dates back to c.1750; the service wing was built in 1773.
We are operated by the 501 c-3 nonprofit Delaware Society for the Preservation of Antiquities. The downstairs is available for rent for meetings and private parties of less than twenty-five people. We are open 12:00-3:00 on the first Wednesday of each month; for public programs (see Calendar); and by appointment .
The American Revolutionary War Round Table of Northern Delaware is a charitable and educational program sponsored by the Delaware Society for the Preservation of Antiquities as a constituent part of its charitable and educational mission.
The Hale Byrnes House, along with Abbott's Mill, Milford Museum, Pencader Heritage Museum, Robinson House and other Historic properties owned by the State of Delaware, Division of Historical Affairs and operated by private organizations, are officially classified as "Historic Sites."For a complete list of these historic sites please see:https://history.delaware.gov/historic-sites/
